PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Major upgrade and reinstatement of the historic Old Choral Hall located at the City campus of the University of Auckland. Repurposing of the entire building required a major fitout involving the design, demolition, and construction of the elements within all floors without affecting important heritage listed building features.

Agile was contracted for the acoustic design of the new architectural and building services features within the new fitout. Our design input is helping ensure the right balance between maximising the available sound isolation and other acoustic objectives preferred by the University while recognising practical limitations and programme realities for this complex re-build.

In addition to the specific Design works for the finished building spaces, Agile provided key advice and vibration monitoring services to protect the heritage fabric and historic Auckland Barracks Wall which runs immediately adjacent to the site. Agile procured, deployed, maintained and monitored alerting systems to ensure that the critical in-ground and compaction works needed to increase the Nett Building Rating for seismic performance did not cause damage to any heritage elements. We also helped determine which in-ground processes could readily be used and which ones needed more care or adjustment in advance of substantial works to facilitate a smooth construction programme.
