PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Agile provided Building Services and Acoustics Engineering support to Aurecon for their new 3,200m2 office space at 110 Carlton Gore Road, Newmarket. The engineering consultancy envisioned a modern shared space that encouraged staff collaboration and honoured their commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi (Treaty of Waitangi) through their He Rautaki Māori, a Māori strategy to provide direction and drive decision-making.

The use of natural timbers in the project design was a significant aspect of incorporating New Zealand cultural elements. The design team worked extensively with Whakakainga Aurecon and Ngāti Whātua to tell the story of the Curious Adventurer and its link to the local environment. These timbers were utilized in various elements of the fitout, including flooring, a large amount of joinery, and the staircase which added warmth, and richness which is distinctively New Zealand.

The office is named Whakakāinga (To Make a Home) and has won an award from the Good Design Awards for integrating Te Ao Māori into the interior design and design process.
